Founded in September 1972 as a non-profit artist-run centre, Open Space supports professional artists -- notably young and emerging -- who utilize hybrid and experimental approaches to media, art, music and performance. It reflects the wide diversity of contemporary art practices in Victoria, across Canada and beyond. Tues to Sat noon - 5 pm.
The Fifty Fifty Arts Collective seeks to promote unique exhibits, events and aesthetic practices undefined by the mainstream. Shows generally run for 10 days over 2 weekends. Check online for current shows. Open only during exhibits Wed to Sun 1 pm - 5 pm or by appointment.
Established in 2001, The Ministry of Casual Living has independently supported and showcased the work of artists in a unique context that allows for the creation of truly experimental art.
Since 1985 Amos has been painting Victoria, depicting the fascinating urban landscapes of the area in hundreds of whimsical watercolours and vibrant acrylic paintings. Located near the Cook Street Village, next to Beacon Hill Park, the Amos Gallery welcomes visitors. See the paintings as well as the working studio. Commissioned work is a specialty. Open by chance or by appointment.
Stevens' paintings are held in a number of public and private collections. Purchased by the Government of British Columbia for their permanent collection held in the Victoria Conference Centre.
The Canadian Bank of Commerce has added Steven's work to their collection of fine Canadian art, purchased through the Broadmead Gallery in Victoria, B.C.
"Protect the Children" was selected for People's Choice award before leaving for the UNITED NATIONS WOMEN IN ART AND CULTURE, held in Beijing, China in September of 1995.
Steven's works have been in many juried Shows, selected many times over the years for the Sooke Fine Arts juried exhibitions, and selected for Jurors awards. Marie Stevens has been invited to attend the Moss Street Paint held each year in Victoria B.C. and put on by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
Located in the trendy Fernwood neighbourhood, this little exhibition space features a continually rotating show by many of Victoria's established artists.
