The second in a series of exhibitions and publications exploring the relationships, personalities and projects contributing to the development of a regional modernist aesthetic in the post-war Victoria urban landscape, this exhibition develops themes of the earlier exhibition Town and Gown: Centennial Square and the the Gordon Head Campus: Seminal Projects (1962–1972) March 10–May 2, 2011.
During this period a small number of legacy architectural firms changed Victoria's built environment with forward-looking planning and bold new architectural forms. Drawing on plans, drawings, photographs and architectural models from the period, this exhibit explores a number of planning initiatives, design projects and building programs that defined this important phase in the development of the Capital Region.

VICTORIA COLLECTS:
A View into Private Art Collections from the Region
&
The Salish Weave Collection
Feb 3 – May 6, 2012
Victoria Collects features more than 90 major artworks on loan from private collections across Victoria. These paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, and drawings by artists ranging from Rembrandt, Andy Warhol, Piet Mondrian, Tom Thomson, E.J. Hughes, Betty Goodwin, to Ed Burtynsky illustrate the immense diversity in collecting styles and approaches that can be found in our region. Victoria Collects is more than a snapshot of fabulous individual pieces; it is a venue for narrative and exploration answering: Why do people collect? What drives them?
The Salish Weave Collection, as part of the Victoria Collects exhibition, demonstrates that a passion for the art of our region can translate beyond amassing and decorating to sharing and educating. Focusing exclusively on works by contemporary Coast Salish artists, George and Christiane Smyth dream of seeing this unique art with its distinct and traditional forms, recognized and appreciated worldwide in a similar way as Northwest Coast art. They have lent and donated far and wide to promote to a broader audience the work of artists such as Susan Point, lessLIE, and Luke Marston.
Exhibitions curated by Mary Jo Hughes. Proudly presented by ScotiaMcLeod.

The Dominguez Art Gallery is proud to present one of Canada's most prominent artists, Martin Beaupre.
Since the age of fourteen, Mr. Beaupre, an autodidact painter, has been strongly influenced by the culture and heritage of Asia and by the art techniques of the region's masters. Mr. Beaupre’s artistic goal is to offer us works that would speak to our inner energy; his success is widely appreciated and celebrated. Acclaimed by prominent Canadian art galleries, interior designers, private collectors and auction dealers, Martin’s art offers the perfect balance of energy, serenity and harmony that is so lacking in the spaces we occupy both at home and work.
Martin has described that the continuity of his meditation practice and of his studies have led him to achieve a marriage of both art and energy.
Without exception, there are two major inspirations to Martin's art: the first, is Asian calligraphy inspired by Zenga, a technique practiced by the Buddhist monks’ intent on remaining in a state of awareness; the latter, is from the highly influential Japanese Zen monasteries of the Muromachi Period in the fourteenth and fifteen centuries.
Martin’s latest works reveal his feelings during his last trip to Japan. The brilliant composition of cherry trees suspended on a floating horizon and of Buddhist monks seemingly walking to the Nirvana magnificently describes the artistic knowledge of the painter. Martin Beaupre’s paintings invite us to slide into a deeper stage of our dreams and to join our inner energy.
